Exams

Why is it that every professor gives midterm exams within two weeks of every other professor? As if we’re all enrolled solely in their class and no other. Why are projects and papers all due at the same time as well? What’s so attractive about week twelve?!

Turnitin.com

Because of the aforementioned exams, I took an extended break from Turnitin.com issues. Here is a little update:

  • I mentioned earlier that the implied consent constitutes a contract. There is no need to go as far as to qualify the implied consent as such. To begin with, it is already unreasonable to require the wavier of civil liberties and intellectual property rights as a condition of enrolling in a course.
  • If you are in a class where the professor uses Turnitin.com, deliver a written (and signed) notice to said professor explicitly refusing consent to submit your work in whole or in part to Turnitin.com, and explicitly forbid anyone else (ie. your professor) to submit your work in whole or in part to Turnitin.com. If they accept the notice and do not return it, say anything about it, or otherwise do anything to communicate their disagreement, it could be assumed that they have accepted your notice. When they penalize you for not handing work into Turnitin.com, you have the upper hand.
  • I am trying to find out the AMS’s (UBC) progress on this problem, if anyone knows anything that may help, please let me know.

Osgoode Cup

The Osgoode Hall law school holds an annual undergraduate mooting competition. I believe it takes place over two days during the weekend. Each team consists of four people, who will be split into two groups of two during the competition. SFU has yet to send a team, I wish to change that for next school year. Anyone interested please get in touch.

SFU Freethinkers

It is pathetic that there are more than 5 christian clubs on campus, one for every other religion, and absolutely no representation of atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, brights, Pastafarians, and IPUians. The original Freethinkers club died out a couple of years ago, I’d like to see it resurrected. I am, however, intending to put most of my own efforts on the Osgoode Cup, so someone needs to co-start the club with me, and run the day-to-day operations. That person could be you! There is a Facebook group to try and get some people together.
